Like many people, you may have tried slimming clubs, been on and off a multitude of diets over the years, all of which can appear successful for a while, but all too often, in time, the weight creeps back on.

Why do diets often fail in the long term?

  • Most diets require eating patterns that are dramatically different from every day life; extreme calorie restriction, eliminating entire food groups, or rigid meal timing. These approaches work temporarily but are nearly impossible to maintain long-term alongside work, social life, and family obligations. Once people return to previous eating patterns, weight typically returns.

  • Strict diets often lead to feelings of deprivation, which can trigger overeating or binge episodes. This isn't a failure of willpower, it's a predictable psychological response to restriction. When certain foods are "forbidden," they become more appealing as we hyper focus on them, and eventually most people give in, often eating more than they would have otherwise.

What about weight loss medications?

  • Medications like GLP-1 agonists (Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, etc.) can be effective while taking them, but most people regain weight after stopping. They work by suppressing appetite and slowing digestion, but don't fundamentally change the underlying factors that led to weight gain. Additionally, they can cause some serious side effects for some people, and often result in significant muscle mass loss; this can make long-term use difficult.

How does the Hypnotherapy course work?:

  • Hypnotherapy can make long-term weight change more sustainable by addressing the psychological, behavioural, and emotional patterns that diets and medications usually ignore.

  • I'll help you understand how and why your unwanted cravings and eating habits have become hard-wired into your brain.

  • You'll learn how to adjust your thought patterns, break habits and change them for something better.

  • I'll help you recognise emotional triggers and change how you respond to them.

  • Change can happen at a deep, identity level; developing intrinsic motivation to become "a person who eats in a balanced way".

  • Reframing thoughts and emotions can diminish subconscious blocks that cause resistance and self-sabotage.

  • Hypnotherapy can reduce the sense that certain foods "control" you. You can take back control, and acquire a new relaxed attitude to food, developing new automatic eating habits that support sustainable weight management.
